Renewing Our Commitment to Non-Violence
June 17, 2025
Today, the targeted attacks on state lawmakers and their spouses as well as those exercising their right to peaceful protest are weighing heavily on our minds. Our hearts go out to the victims, their loved ones, and their communities as we honor their service and commitment to our democracy.
Non-violence is, and must be, a foundational principle of our work. Life is precious, and democracy must safeguard it. We, as stewards of the democracy we hope to live in, must uphold that value in everything we do. We urge you to publicly express your own commitment to non-violence.
We also recognize that political violence can make us feel anxious, angry, or even helpless. We hope you take space to process those feelings, and give others the grace to do the same.
Especially in moments of fragility, modeling the values we want to manifest in the world is essential. When we show up as courageous, compassionate, and curious, we inspire others to find a way to do the same.
We invite you to reflect on how you can honor the legacy of service of all of those who have dedicated themselves to building a country where freedom and justice abound, and welcome you to join us in our efforts to do so.
May our star-spangled banner long wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
